City
considers selling Arctic, Alaska buildings
Puget Sound Business Journal (Seattle) - October 28,
2004
The city of Seattle
said it is negotiating the sale of two of the city's oldest buildings -- the
Arctic building and Alaska building -- which could close early next year.
Arctic Club Hotel
LLC hopes to purchase the 10-story, 96,000-square-foot Arctic building, and to
convert it to a hotel.
Located on the
corner of Third Avenue and Cherry Street, it was built in 1914 and is on the
National Historic Register.
Kauri
Investments/Ariel Development seeks to purchase the 15-story, 140,000-square-foot
Alaska building at Second Avenue and Cherry to convert it into housing. Built
in 1904, the Alaska building was Seattle's first steel-framed skyscraper.
The city put the
buildings on the market in June, and isn't disclosing purchase prices for now.
